The JSS Mahavidyapeetha is a socio-cultural institution that has pioneered the concept of education as a tool for social change. Through its over 250 institutions it not only provides learning to about 40,000 students but touches the lives of millions more through a cascading effect.

From humble beginnings less than six decades ago, today JSS MVP has grown into a social force that transcends boundaries and cultures. Institutions in its fold go beyond education to span creches, old age homes, cooperatives, rural development, orphanages, vocational training, publications and even cultural revival and the protection of our heritage. Every activity that the JSS MVP undertakes is aimed at the furtherance of its objective of a brighter, more fruitful future for society at large.

The JSS Mahavidyapeetha was founded in 1954 by His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji with the objective of providing education and health care especially to the rural mass. The Vidyapeetha -under the able guidance of present President His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji now runs more than 314 institutions in India and abroad. The range of Institutions includes Sanskrit Patashalas, Postgraduate Centers, Agricultural Research Centers, Hospitals, Free Education Schools, Nursing, Medical and Engineering Colleges.

Introduction about our college:

The college was started in 1964. It is an autonomous college under the University of Mysore and is co-educational in character. The institution has been accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) with 'Four Stars'. An important aim and objective of the college lies in moulding the character of young students with emphasis on moral values. University of Mysore has recommended to the UGC to declare the college as a "Potential College for Excellence".

The college is situated on a sprawling 8 acre plot in sylvan surrounding at the foot of the Chamundi Hills. It has excellent infrastructure required for the pursuit of academic excellence. Because of its multifaceted growth the college has won encomiums from all corners. The college offers UG programmes in BA, B.Sc., B.Com., and BBM ; PG programmes in Master of Social Work (MSW), M.Sc. (Biotechnology) and M.Sc. (Biochemistry); PG Diplomas in Embedded System, Information Communication Technology for Development and Tax Management ; Certificate / Diploma / Advanced Diploma courses in Horticulture, Microbiology, Electric & Electronic Equipment Maintenance, Sharana Sahitya and Tax Management. The college has introduced UGC sponsored courses in Biotechnology, Computer Maintenance and Instrumentation.

From the academic year 2008-09, the college is making arrangements to start MBA, M.Sc. (Computer Science and BCA.

Highly qualified and dedicated teaching staff is the real asset of the college. Nearly 1500 students including foreign students are pursuing their education in various disciplines. Infrastructure and learning resources of the college are admired by all the stake holders of the college. It has 40 spacious lecture halls, well equipped laboratories, and central library with more than 56,000 books, spacious reading room, computer centre, Browsing Centre, Language Lab, multi-gym and canteen facilities. The college recognizes the toppers in examinations through medals and cash prizes during the graduation day ceremony. Many alumni of the institution, now successful literati, politicians, administrators and bureaucrats are still nostalgic and maintain an emotional attachment with the institution.

The college also has conducive atmosphere for sports and cultural activities. It has a well-maintained playground and a well equipped National Level Basketball Court. Students have brought laurels to the college in games, sports, debate and music at Inter-College and University Level events. The college has one NCC wing and two NSS units, the volunteers of which have participated in State and National Level Camps.

The college has successfully organized national and state level seminars, workshops, conferences and symposia. Under the spiritual guidance of Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, the present pontiff of Sri Suttur Math, the institution is desirous of scaling new heights in days to come.
