  3. Thermodynomics: First and second laws of thermodynomics, enthalpy,entropy, free energy, Gibb's free energy. Free energy change and temperture, free energy change and chemical equilibria. 3

  4. Kinetics: Order and molarity of a reaction, rate of a reaction, effect of temperature on rate. Arrhenius equation, Transition state theory,catalysis, Equilibrium constant. 2

Lipids-Nomenclature,physicochemical properties of fatty acids, triglycerides and phospholipids. Structure and occurrence of terpenes,steriods. Stucture and occurrence of alkaloids.

Proteins: aminoacids- classification, steriochemistry, structure and properties. Peptide bond, primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary stuctures of proteins. Denaturation of proteins. Nucleic acids: structure of nucleiosides and nucleotides. structure of DNA and different types of RNA's. Chargaff's rule. Spectral properties of nucleic acids- hypo and hyperchromic effects. 12

  1. Enzymes: Classification, Michaelis-Menton hypothesis, enzyme inhibition. Effect of pH, temperature and substrate concentration on enzyme activity. Applications of enzymes. 3
