The department of Economics was established in the college in the year 1967 with a vision to provide the students of Mysore with the knowledge of Economics which shall help them come out of dearth of poverty and enter into the stream of knowledge to uplift the Indian economy, to rise itself to the level of high international economic order.
Since its inception the department of economics has prepared the student to obtain various jobs in the Administrative services both at the state and national level. A few have gone to the level of serving International Economic Institutions too. Some Students who got their BA, B.Com and B.B.M with Economics as one of their subject in the Degree course have completed their higher studies in Manasa Gangothri, Mysore and other University centers. Some of our students who have settled in abroad are now getting us the feed back in the form of financial assistance. Many Alumni of the Department have contributed to the Knowledge of Economics by writing books on various topics of Economics. Many have written even the reference books on different subject of Economics.
The department of Economics has 4,500 books in the library with 21 Journals on periodicals along with the World Bank report and IMF report and RBI bulletin.
Plan of Activities of the Department
First Monday of very month, the department holds a meeting to discuss the following matters.
- Evaluation of B.A / B.Com / B.B.M results
- Scholarships on the basis of merit
- Allotment of subjects for the Academic year
- Preparation of time table of the department
- Preparation of Academic Calendar to conduct test seminar midterm and preparatory Examinations, Viva
- Selection of topics for seminars and group discussions for the Academic year.
- follow up work for unsuccessful students through counseling.
- Plans are envisaged to call the parents of the students to discuss their Academic improvement.
- Conducting extra coaching classes for Non-Economic students.
- Guideline for small and tiny projects.
