The Department of English was established in 1964. English being an emerging global language, the department has been striving to inculcate in the young minds sensitivity, sensibility and the sense of articulation. Considering the multi-lingual and multi-cultural context on India, the department proposes to introduce translation studies for optional English students. The department also encourages students to take-up comparative studies between English literature and Kannada literature. The faculty takes special care to develop language - listening, speaking, writing and reading skills. The department also offers special guidance classes for students who are weak in English communication. The department also runs a language lab where training is imparted in language skills.
